Soap for Hope Canada — Website Design & Development

Soap for Hope Canada is a Victoria-based nonprofit addressing hygiene poverty by redistributing hygiene products and linens to shelters, seniors’ facilities, and community organizations. The goal of this project was to redesign and rebuild their website into a clear, welcoming, and easy-to-manage platform that supports multiple audiences, including donors, volunteers, partner agencies, and community members.

Project Overview

Title: Soap for Hope Canada – Website Redesign & CMS Development

Role: UX/UI Designer & Developer

Tools: Framer (CMS), Figma (design), basic usability checks

My Contribution: Information architecture, visual design, live build in Framer, basic content structuring

The Challenge

The organization’s existing website lacked a clear structure and consistent visual language, making it difficult for visitors to quickly understand the mission, programs, and ways to get involved. Internally, staff needed a content management system that would allow them to update information without technical support.

The challenge was to simplify a broad range of services into an intuitive structure while creating a flexible foundation for future growth.

Goals

  • Clarify and organize nonprofit programs and services

  • Create a welcoming, accessible experience for diverse users

  • Build a CMS that staff could confidently update

  • Establish a visual system that could scale over time

My Approach

Discovery → Structure → Design → Build

I began with a lightweight content audit and mapped key user journeys based on how people typically interact with nonprofit websites: learning about the mission, understanding impact, volunteering, donating, or accessing services.

From there, I developed a clear information architecture and wireframes that prioritized clarity and readability. Once the structure was defined, I translated the layouts into a clean visual design and built the full website in Framer, setting up CMS collections for ongoing content management.

Key Takeaways

This project reinforced the value of:

Clear information architecture in community-focused work

Lightweight design systems for nonprofits

Documentation that supports long-term usability, not just launch day

These lessons directly inform how I approach community service portals and nonprofit platforms today.
